The achievement or failure of district goals is dependent largely on how motivated staff members are. Ignite is a resource from K12 HR Solutions. Ignite was written specifically for school leaders and provides the theory and human resource framework that is needed to create a more engaged staff in your district. This book discusses how leaders can affect motivation and how to design HR programs, such as hiring and professional development to engage teachers. Ignite also covers common factors, in school environments, that kill motivation, and much more.
- Only 20% of all employees are highly engaged, another 20% are actively disengaged, and the remaining 60% are teetering between moderately engaged to slightly disengaged (Gruman & Saks, 2011).
- When students’ surroundings and environment (which includes teacher behavior) provide for basic psychological needs motivation is more likely to flourish (Connell & Wellborn, 1991).
- Children who are more engaged in school earn higher grades and score higher on standardized tests (Skinner, Wellborn, & Cornell, 1990).
